Dynamic and Geography of Heating and Cooling Degree Days over the Georgian Territory

Heating and cooling degree days are measures that reflect the amount of energy needed to heat or cool a building to a comfortable temperature, given how cold or hot it is outside. The purpose of the presented research is the study of the dynamic and geography of heating and cooling degree days indices over the Georgian territory, for the baseline period of The World Meteorological Organization 1961-1990. Daily temperatures of 14 meteorological stations in the territory of Georgia were used to calculate heating and cooling degree days. The peculiarities of spatial-temporal changes of heating and cooling degree days are analyzed. The obtained results are crucial for the rational utilization of energy in the country, cost reduction and maximized benefits for society.
