Modern Biotechnology approaches for freshwater cleaning imply identification and application of microorganisms which are most effective pollutant utilizers. Biosorption of heavy metals by application of microalgae is effective method of Bioremediation, allowing removal of trace concentrations of metals without originating of secondary toxic remains. Therefore bioremediation is being considered as the best alternative method of water purification technology. Typically water purification biological systems operate in natural conditions, where many factors can influence on development and metabolic processes of algae. In the light of above and due to the high level of adaptability to the environmental changes, the application of green and blue- green algae is very promising. Cell surfaces of microorganisms, consisting of polysaccharides, proteins and lipids, can act as heavy metal-binding sites. The objective of proposed research is to study by spectral methods the influence of ions and binary metal systems on a phycocyanin, the main protein of blue green algae (cyanobacteria) Spirulina. For this purpose of the study the following goals were envisaged: Study of Influence of Co2+ Cr(VI), Mn2+, Mg2+ ions on Phycocyanin; Study of Binary metal system influence on Phycocyanin by spectral analysis; The ability of phycocyanin to absorb magnesium, manganese, chromium and cobalt has been revealed and the dependence of degree and effectiveness of biosorption on concentrations of these metals in solution has been shown. In the co-existence of biogenic (Na+) and toxic (Cd2+) metals, the range of effectiveness has been changed by interaction of magnesium, manganese, chromium and cobalt with c-phycocyanin, which is due to the competition of C-phycocyanin active centers.
